Chapter XIII - Musculoskeletal
Fractures
Traumatic and pathological fractures classify to entirely different chapters.
ما يعنيه هذا عمليًا
- A fracture through bone weakened by disease, sustained with minimal trauma, is pathological and classifies to M80.- or M84.4-, not to the S-codes.
- Traumatic fractures require an external cause code and, where the jurisdiction mandates it, a place-of-occurrence code.
- Bilateral joint involvement may have a single combination code (for example bilateral primary coxarthrosis) rather than two unilateral codes.
